JACK: Well its been one of the biggest and best years for music on The UK Airplay Chart so Jack Sullivan thought it was only fitting you had a look at just a few of the contenders for #TheStarsOf2014 #ChartOfTheYear top spot. There are some absolute crackers in there. • The triple dream team of Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj and Jessie J are surely in for that #Number1 spot with #BangBang right? The girls went to Number 1 near the end of September 2014 with this powerhouse of a track. • Ariana debuted her brand new look and general awesomeness with #Problem at the start of 2014 and we havent been able to turn it off since. Lets be honest with ourselves shall we, we have no doubt danced around the house like Ariana more than a few times. • 2014 should be officially renamed the #YearOfSamSmith. Everyones new favourite singer SAM SMITH burst onto the scene with his album #InTheLonelyHour, and #MoneyOnMyMind was only a taste of what else was to come. • Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof. Pharrell Williams had us smiling all year with #Happy. After featuring on Daft Punks #GetLucky and Robin Thickes #BlurredLines the year before, it was about time Pharrell took centre stage wit this instant classic. • Perfect voice, check. Guitar skills to rival any of the greats, check. A sweet pair of dancing feet... CHECK. Ed Sheeran proved you can really do anything you put your mind to when he danced his way into our hearts with #ThinkingOutLoud. • Dream team alert. Clean Bandit and Jess Glynne go together like roast turkey and crispy potatoes. #RatherBe wasnt the only time the pairing proved they were a match made in heaven, they also grabbed the Number 1 spot a few months later with #RealLove. • It may be an outside shot as George Ezra didnt grab the Number 1 spot with #Budapes, HOWEVER you have downloaded this track in troves throughout the entire year, could it be a surprise chart topper? • Yup, of course #AllAboutThatBass makes the contender list. At one point, it seemed like EVERYONE was all about that bass. Meghan Trainors debut album #Title is due to drop in 2015, we cant wait. • Taylor Swift makes the cut for the contender list with #ShakeItOff. Although the song has never actually got the Number 1 spot, it has consistently been in the top five for A LOT of weeks. Tune in to Canalside Community Radio Friday from 7pm on 102.8FM and thethread.org.uk to see which song YOU have put into the top spot. Heres what you voted as your favourite song of 2013...
