JAMIE SPROULE RECOVERY UPDATE: from his daughter Annabelle Dad is in St Josephs Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit. He is now rehydrated and healing from his minor injuries. They have a tube inserted into his stomach and have started tube feeding him liquid nutrition since last night. He has been getting some sinemet, which is his main Parkinsons medication, since yesterday afternoon. We are collaborating with the UBC Parkinsons clinic and his long time neurologist Dr McKeown to try to slowly ease him back into the meds and control the effects of the Parkinsons. St Josephs Hospital staff have been very flexible and have been letting us guide his care to a certain extent to try and balance the meds and not overdose his brain with dopamine which can cause its own set of symptoms and problems. Yesterday afternoon he was responding to my sister and I as we fed him small amounts of water. He asked for more water and then when he had had enough water he asked for food. This is a very good sign and we are really hoping he continues to improve but we are all aware that it can take some time. On my way to the hospital yesterday while I was driving along the dyke road and feeling worried and fearful that he may not recover to his former self a song came on the AM radio 650 station. It was Sonny and Chers I got you babe and I took it as a good sign! Dad and I have performed this song as a duet at the Cumberland Hotels karaoke nights. Other times when my dad has been in the hospital or going through a rough patch at home with the Parkinsons I have been able to cheer him up by singing this song, he never failed to join in and sing his part. I will continue to keep everyone updated to his progress in the hospital. We as a family really appreciate all the continued support and well wishes from everyone. Once he is well enough to come home from the hospital Im going to organize a get together with all of the amazing volunteer searchers and support crews who made this ending the happy ending that it is. I will also keep friends in the loop around visiting the hospital once he is well enough to take visitors. For now since he is in the intensive care unit only family members are permitted to visit. Thank you all for your continued support during this challenging time, today marks exactly one week from when he left on that fateful walk. Im so happy to be sharing this message of hope and survival with you all!
