JANUARY 6, 2015 Dear Sir/Madam, APPRECIATION OF MEDIA - TopicsExpress

JANUARY 6, 2015 Dear Sir/Madam, APPRECIATION OF MEDIA ORGANISATIONS / THE YEAR AHEAD. On behalf of the management and staff of the Social Development Integrated Centre (Social Action), I wish to express our profound gratitude to you, the representatives of media organisations which have partnered with us by publishing our Press Releases, for your selfless and remarkable contribution to the worthy cause of building a stronger democratic Nigeria. These notable media platforms consisting of men and women whom we highly regard as patriotic bridge-builders deserving of recognition, have done creditably in relaying our views to the general public and we sincerely appreciate your tireless work and outstanding passion at ensuring that Nigerians are adequately informed of our stand for social change. 2014 was a year of significant progress in our struggles for social and environmental justice, and we absolutely recognise the valuable contribution of our media partners to the feat. As the media outfits that received our press statements bearing our position on several issues affecting the Nigerian society and supported us by disseminating same, you facilitated our work in 2014, bringing our message to the homes and hearts of very many Nigerians, and we are excited to say - THANK YOU. We particularly acknowledge and thank the print-media organisations, broadcast-media houses, as well as several electronic-media platforms too numerous to list here. In commencing the year 2015, we berth at this pristine season to re-affirm our genuine commitment to the development of true democracy in Nigeria. As a non-governmental (and non-profitmaking) organisation in the Development sector, we are acutely conscious of the environmental degradation, natural resource exploitation, loss of livelihoods, poverty, corruption, human rights violations and the violent conflicts which have ravaged some oil and gas-bearing communities in Nigeria. These and many more issues we advocated against, last year, through our people-oriented activities. Nevertheless, being a highly responsive civil society organisation, we pledge our readiness to amplify our advocacy efforts this year. We are poised for unprecedented excellence in the work of constructively engaging the government, community leaders and other stakeholders in Nigeria, with a view to achieving our programmatic goals in solving societal problems. We therefore hope that the productive relationship we have had with you, our media partners, would continuously thrive, for we believe that a quick and widespread dissemination of timely information, engenders greater opportunities for the development of the nation and its people. Thank you very much indeed. We wish you a fulfilling 2015, and may your dreams come true. Yours in solidarity, Lillian Akhigbe, Communications Officer, Social Action.
