JAPAN Defense becoming an increasingly-growing interest, Japan - TopicsExpress

JAPAN Defense becoming an increasingly-growing interest, Japan has been spending enough on defense for The Economist to tweet “Japan plays catch-up with China’s defense spending” yesterday. China’s defenses have grown to about 30 times what it was back in 2005. Unfortunately, the increased interest in defense comes a little too late for two Japanese citizens, one a well-respected journalist and the other an owner of a private military company, who were shown in a ransom video broadcast by ISIS today (picture below). The Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe (also below) had pledged on Sunday to offer $200 million toward not the fight against ISIS, but toward the refugees whose lives have been devastated because of ISIS. This pledge was enough though to get the attention of ISIS, whose video today demands from the prime minister that same amount of $200 million in exchange for these two citizens, who were captured months ago. The prime minister calls the demands unforgivable, but did not actually say he would not consider them. He has until Friday to deliver the funds, or the two citizens will be beheaded.
