JASD was written on his kennel, confused I looked at him and said Whats that mean dog ? Is that you name ? I kinda chuckled as I walked away. Just another shelter dog is what it means I spun around to see where those words came from and there was that dirty little dog lookin up at me . I could feel my heart beating inside my chest and felt the sudden urge to sit down. I aint nuthin special I havent killed anyone , I was never abused, beaten, neglected or thrown out of a moving car . I was not a fighter or a bait dog Im not from a puppy mill or a hoarding house . My people fell on hard times and had to leave and they couldnt take me with them so rather than dump me on the street they brought me here. They said I was a good boy and id find a home soon but that was a month ago and I aint seen no one that wants just another shelter dog .. I miss my kid and my cat my couch and my worn out bed . Im getting closer to that door where they go and they dont come back . It keeps me up at night it makes me crabby said that dirty little dog .. As I sat down on the cold pavement everything went dark. I could feel that dirty little dog lickin my face as I drifted off in the darkness . I died that day thankfully not alone that dirty little shelter dog was there to see me home . This a disjointed tribute to all those dirty little shelter dogs that slipped thru the cracks and the people who helped them . You are why I do what I do .. and I see you .
