JESSICA SIMPSON (MOJACAR OPPOSITION COUNCILLOR) PRESS RELEASE (English & Spanish) 20-11-13 Quick update to inform you that this morning at 10 there is an extraordinary plenary meeting with 2 points on the agenda, one is a modification of the budget to designate 90.000€ of excess granted for road improvements for the improvement of the area sorrounding the Fuente, by creating squares, car parking spaces and explanation panels of how the fountain works also including a monument of part of the old water mill. Also a modifcation for the project of the lift, 8.000€ for the architect for making some minor modifications, there will also be an increase in the final cost of this project as you can imagine. Second point is the PGOU (General urban devolpment plan) this is very important for Mojacars future and there will be a public presentation this evening at 7pm at the Artisan centre. I have pointed out a few important modifications below. *PGOU (General Urban planning project) *– in advance of todays council meeting, here is some information on the PGOU, which has been provided to us last Friday! Tonight a public meeting will be held to describe and discuss the plan,in the Artisan Centre in the Pueblo, beginning at 7.00. All are invited to attend. There will then be a period for suggestions on the plan lasting for up to the 15th of January. Briefly, the PGOU is a long term plan for infrastructure of Mojacar. It could be in place for up to 20 or 30 years. All that is happening at present is the updating of the existing plan, which has been in place since 1987 and clearly does not reflect current requirements. Successive councils have attempted to adopt a new plan, but without success. There is a lot of bureaucracy involved, up to Junta level... The work to draft the plan has been carried out by the company that was involved recently in the catastral revaluation project. The plan has been developed against the background of the likely-to-fail Llano Central project to build a massive urban conurbation in the valley between Mojacar, Turre, Vera and Garrucha, which had in recent years restricted the amount of building approved in the four towns. A number of key developments are proposed. They include: The area between the Pueblo and Playa around the gas station where the plan proposes the building of a new centre which would include a bus station, medical centre, police station, recycling area, a home for elderly residents and a fairground. A new access road to connect the Marina de la Torre development to the Garrucha to Los Gallardos road, relieving traffic on the Paseo. A marina to be constructed on the coast next to the Hotel Best Indalo. A park, car park and (possible) hotel adjacent to the camp site. Developing the area around the Rio Abajo Hotel with green belt facilities, walking routes etc. An industrial estate to be built around Las Alparatas, near the Cespa gas station on the Garrucha to Los Gallardos Road. A new byelaw to insist that all privately-owned but undeveloped areas in the Pueblo are developed by their owners and eradicate the large number of small, unfinished “building sites/rubbish dumps” in the village. Providing a car park for the Hotel Moresco. It is envisaged that this could be built on the site of the existing unsurfaced car park just down the hill from the swimming pool and gym complex and below the site of the new lift. This would be “tiered” into the hillside and be connected to lower floors of the hotel by a wide footpath. *There are a lot more elements on the list which were not discussed. However, there are detailed maps, which deserve inspection.
