JESUS CHRIST WOULD HAVE HAD AN POWERLESS MINISTRY WITHOUT THE ASSISTANCE OF THE GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT Let us look at an example from the Scriptures that will make us realize that the Man Jesus, without the function of the gifts of the Holy Spirit in His life, would have had an very ordinary and powerless ministry. The occasion was when the Holy Spirit did not let the gift of a word of knowledge function through Jesus – notice His surprise: Luk 8:43 A woman who had been suffering from chronic bleeding for twelve years was in the crowd. No one could cure her. Luk 8:44 She came up behind Jesus, touched the edge of his clothes, and her bleeding stopped at once. Luke 8:43-47…..And Jesus said, ‘WHO IS THE ONE who touched me?’... Peter said, ‘Master, the people are crowding and pressing in on You.’ But Jesus said, ‘SOMEONE did touch Me, for I was aware that power had gone out of Me.’” It is obvious that the Son of the living God did not have the vaguest idea who touched Him. He did not know if it was a man or a woman. He only knew that SOMEONE touched Him. Only when the Holy Spirit activated the gift of a word of KNOWLEDGE in His spirit, He knew who touched Him. The gift of a word of KNOWLEDGE is divine and supernatural. It is when the Holy Spirit reveals certain incidents to you of which you bear no knowledge, that have happened or are happening in a person’s life. In this instance, the Holy Spirit revealed through this gift the dire current health situation of the women: Matt 9:22 Jesus turned and saw the woman. He said, Be happy, dear woman. You are made well because you believed. Then the woman was healed. This is a fascinating revelation as if the Holy Spirit wants to show us that without Him we are nothing and also accentuates the fact that Jesus did no miracles by His divine power, because He had emptied Himself of His divinity. Php 2:6 Though he possessed the nature of God, he did not grasp at equality with God, Php 2:7 but laid it aside to take on the nature of a slave and become like other men. He had functioned as an ordinary man by the power of the Holy Spirit. Act 10:38 You know that GOD ANOINTED JESUS FROM NAZARETH WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT AND WITH POWER. Jesus went everywhere and did good things, such as healing everyone who was under the devils power. Jesus did these things because God was with him. Jesus did not do one miracle by His own divine power, but by the power and gifts of the Holy Spirit. He is our example that we as a mere man can wrought the same power miracles that Jesus once did through the power and gifts of the Holy Spirit. We must remember that Jesus did all these works as the Son of man and not as the Son of God. Philippians 2:7-8 clearly states He laid aside His mighty power and glory and became like man in the truest sense of the word. In other words, He came to show His followers that we as human beings can also do what He did, but only by the gifts of the Spirit. 1 Cor 12:1 But about the things of the spirit, my brothers, it is not right for you to be without teaching Although the Apostle Paul encouraged us to further our knowledge concerning the gifts, dynamics and workings of the Holy Spirit, many of us are still in spiritual darkness as we never received scriptural teachings on this subject.
