JESUS THE HEALER There are many accounts throughout all four KJV Gospels of Jesus as a healer who cures a large range of maladies. Most illnesses are physical; blindness and deafness (both which may symbolize a spiritual unawareness of the scriptures), paralysis, leprosy, epilepsy, a crippled leg, or a withered hand. Others are mental disorders, described as the possessing of evil spirits that need exorcising. Jesus uses different means of cure ----Touch, word, and even the medium of spittle. The cures are always efficacious, although in one case the remedy is at first only partially successful {Study – Mark 8:22-26 KJV}. Usually Jesus responds to requests for a cure by seeing a demonstration of faith either by the sufferer or by the parent or friend of the sick person. Occasionally the healing is performed at a distance. In one use, a cure is effected without Jesus’ prior knowledge {Study – Mark 5:25-34 KJV}. There is no healing if there is no faith. Thus in Nazareth, after Jesus had been rejected, he “could do no deed of power there” {Study – Mark 6:5 KJV}. For Christian evangelists all the cures effected by Jesus are equivalent to his casting out evil, it being commonly believed that those suffering were afflicted because of their own, or their parents sins. The healing stories in the KJV New Testament are thus, in effect, a forgiving of sin. THE VOICE OF ONE CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS - THE CIRCUIT RIDER
