JKFeedback: Expanding the frontier of Good Governance. By Ahmed Lawal In his bid to further give a boost to the frontiers of good governance, and in line with one of the administration’s 8 point agenda,(participatory governance) Governor Kayode Fayemi, penultimate weekend, played host to bloggers, social media commentator and influencer across Nigeria. The programmed which was tagged; “no hold barred session with JKF”, was designed to bring together new media practitioners to rub minds with the governor. The event turned out to be a miles apart from the practice of the past when a chief executive would appear like a tin god, as the governor was at home to present his scorecard for scrutiny. He didn’t only answer question, he listened to advice from various quarters. As one of the participants, coupled with the fact that I’m among the few that were drawn from Ekiti, the programmed was an eye opener, and confirmation of Fayemi giant stride in office. our first point of call was the project site of Ekiti state pavilion, where participants from outside Ekiti, who had earlier arrived and lodged at ikogosi resort previous night joined us before proceeding for the on the spot assessment of fayemi ongoing and completed projects site across the state. O”Seun Odewale,(Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor ) and host of other aides led us in tour of 12 out of 16 local government in Ekiti, where the team visited ongoing construction of civic center, Funmi Olayinka centre for cancer screening and diagnosis, Olukayode Stadium as well as Oba Rufus Adejuyigbe General hospital all in Ado Ekiti. On justification for the pavilion and others legacy project, Odewale explained that the project apart from improving the aesthetic landscape of the state capital, it is to serve as income generation source for the state. One thing that baffles our colleagues from outside the state was the near perfect state of road network across all towns and villages we passed through from Ado to Gboyin, ikole, oye, ilejemeje, oye, moba, ijero, Ekiti West, and Efon Alaaye local government respectively. It is a statement of fact that the basic feature of government intervention in all this communities are Newly refurbished public school, 5km roads road project, Community development project, pipe borne water and ongoing reconstruction of all colonial bridges scattered across Ekiti. In this category, iye newly constructed bridge in ilejemeje local government was a beauty to behold, ikole town is a huge construction site while the people of Ayetoro, ipoti, ijero are full of praise for fayemi over the new road that connect those community together which according to them has reduced their suffering. Samuel olomola,an indigene of ipoti said”we no longer needs to go through ijero to Ado now because the road is good unlike before when you need to spend lot of time waiting for car but now our town has been opened up apart from that, fayemi massive renovation of Ipoti high school has add more beauty to our town. The commercial agriculture initiative of fayemi led administration is another landmark achievement in every sense, apart from creating employment for the teeming youths in Ekiti, it has encourage Elite class whose hitherto could not even came home to visit families during PDP era are now actively involved in Commercial agriculture. Our visit to Datlex group of companies farm in itapaji tells the story. According to Bayo Ajiniran and Kayode Afolabi, they decided to invest in agric sector out of their passion for Ekiti development and enabling environment created by Kayode Fayemi led administration hence their huge investment in Itapaji which they put at over 100 million and they have not achieved their set objective. “We have a vision of taking over tomato’s market in Ekiti and southwest even now many tomato’s paste company are talking to us for supply,” Ajiniran Said. On Saturday 8 February , at the interactive session with social media practitioner, which had in attendance Commissioners,Senator Babafemi Ojudu,Olubunmi Adetumbi and Director General Of Kayode fayemi for Second Term,Hon Bimbo Daramola. Governor Kayode Fayemi displayed high level of brilliance, comportment, tolerance in answering all sort of questions, ranging from governance, scorecard ,leadership and of course politics. Even though, some of the bloggers out of exuberance asked some provocative questions, the governor remained calm, cool and collected throughout the period that the programme lasted. No doubt, infrastructural development is a major catalyst for economic development of any state and Kayode Fayemi giant strides in every sector of his 8 point agenda is visible for all of us in Ekiti even opposition to see and feel. But to me, the major achievement of Governor Kayode Fayemi is entrenchment of culture of respect for the citizens and raising the level and quality of participation of Ekiti people in the decisions and actions that affects their welfare and progress, which are the hallmark of good governance. Indeed, Fayemi has within three years in office raised the bar and redefined the art of governance. What more to expect from a visionary leader than to allow him continue his good work and take Ekiti higher by the end of his two term in office.
