JOB OP: Executive Director in San Jose Community Media Access Partnership (CMAP), a highly-regarded Bay Area community media organization, is seeking a talented Executive Director to lead the organizations ongoing growth and innovation in serving Gilroy, Hollister and San Juan Bautistas diverse media community. The Executive Director will take an entrepreneurial approach to setting strategy and organizing operations to maximize the organizations overall community impact. Expanding CMAPs funding base and operational capacity are critical organization goals. Candidates should have the ability to bring staff, volunteers and community leaders together to achieve a common goal. The Executive Director will also consult with our sister station, CTV, pursuant to the CMAP-CTV contract. The ideal candidate will have the following skills and accomplishments: Experience as an Executive Director with a non-profit organization. Four years of management and supervisory experience in the community media field. Proven history of leading successful teams and exceeding expectations - both financially and on a mission impact basis Reputation for being a capable manager of longer-term strategy and, at the same time, for overseeing the details of the day-to-day running of the organization Direct experience creating and managing annual financial budgets; must possess command of financial accounting and compliance matters Direct experience managing fundraising activities, such as grant writing, capital campaigns and charity auctions Demonstrated user of technology, especially social media, to communicate with and engage constituents Experience producing innovative and engaging public and private events Ability to represent the organization within local government and across other community non-profits Demonstrated commitment to community media is highly preferred BA or BS degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience Proven visionary leadership and partnership with Board of Directors in achieving organizational vision and mission Proven success at pursuing and incorporating new revenue sources through a variety of fundraising and entrepreneurial activities, consistent with the mission of the organization Demonstrated management responsibility with a complex non-profit organization Documented experience that demonstrates a thorough knowledge of Community Access or a closely related field Strong communications skills, including effective public speaking and negotiation skills Demonstrated ability to develop and coordinate active outreach/volunteer programs Dedication to First Amendment rights and enhancing citizen participation through access to communications media Excellent oral and written communication skills Strong organizational abilities, fiscal responsibility, and business management skills Video production experience Radio/LPFM managem ent, or startup experience desired General Responsibilities and Duties: Key responsibilities include working with the Board and staff to develop and implement all policies, procedures, and long-range strategic plans and compliance with the agreements with Gilroy, Hollister and San Juan Bautista , CA, and supervision of such areas as personnel matters, outreach, training, production, programming, promotion, grant writing, and fundraising. This person must be technologically cognizant of both new and social media, be familiar with video production and digital editing equipment, and encourage the growth of diverse and quality programming while increasing the organizations membership and ensuring that members are provided services on a timely and consistent basis. Duties include, but are not limited to the following: Community Media Establish and oversee media training curriculum that benefits community producers and volunteers Keep informed of trends, issues, events, and developments within the community media field through professional peer contacts, conference attendance, etc. Work constantly to improve and enhance the services offered by CMAP Facilitate the communitys efforts and develop the operations of a LPFM radio station in Hollister, supp orted by CMAP Administration and Board Support Assists the Board in the formulation of policies for effective and responsible operation of the Center Responsible for public a ccountability and maintenance of facilities, procedures, contracts, and organizational documents Manages and supports professional development of the staff; responsible for developing individual job descriptions and evaluating staff performance against established personnel criteria Prepare and present periodic public reports regarding progress toward and barriers to the achievement of such policies and plans Interface with attorney on all legal matters Fund Development and Donor Relations Executive Director is expected to oversee collection of operating funds yearly from sources including existing program contracts, paid productions, sponsorships, underwriting, grants, and individual d onations, etc. Up to $200,000. Identifies government, corporate and foundation funding opportunities, tracks application deadlines, develops and submits appropriate proposals, supporting materials and conducts necessary follow-up to secure grants Leads the annual fundraising appeal and staffs Board and other volunteer fundraising activities including capital campaigns and other funding initiatives < span style=color:rgb(34, 34, 34);font-family:Bitstream Vera Serif, Times New Roman, serif;font-size:medium;>Develops and maintains ongoing contacts with current and prospective donors, including cultivation of new donors for CMAP Financial Management Prepares budgets based on annual operating plans in consultation with the Boards Finance Committee Directs financial operations and maintains fiscal integrity of the organization through careful budget, oversight and cost benefit analysis of expenditures Reports periodic progress toward budget objectives Completes all required nonprofit fiscal and regulatory reporting requirements Marketing/Public Relations and Social Media Outreach In consultation with Board members and other volunteers, facilitates the development, implementation and oversight of a marketing/public relations/social media outreach plan with an emphasis on reaching out to local underserved populations Serves as chief spokesperson for CMAP in outreach to the community through speaking engagements, publications, annual reports, personal contacts and direct engagement in community activities Represent CMAP in dealings with other public interest organizations and maintain an active role in the community Maintain a close working relationship, to include providing reports, with representatives of the community organizations, government agencies and p ublic schools of Gilroy, Hollister and San Juan Bautista, CA. Listen and communicate effectively in welcoming a diversity of opinions, needs, and cultures Spanish speaker desired Human Resources Energetic self-starter and passionate about CMAPs mission and programs Hires, supervises, and completes performance appraisals for all staff (currently 4-7) Informs and advises Board about personnel issues Coordinates volunteer activities Develops and maintains staffing plans Oversees staff professional development and personnel practices Overall, the successful candidate will possess the abilities needed to dramatically impact CMAPs mission - of fostering a community that values local media.
