JORHAT: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday reiterated his partys call for strengthen women participation in all sectors of the country.He was addressing a group of 600 women from different walks of life before concluding his two-day visit to Assam. They were so thrilled to meet Rahul that one of them kissedhim on his forehead, while another landed a peck on his cheek.The participants spoke about empowerment and asked Rahul questions related to security, development and reservation for the women.We always try to give some top posts like President, Prime Minister, chief minister, MP and MLA to women. We also want themto get top powerful positions in all sectors. We hope women will comeforward in all sectors and be powerful.He said India would become a developed nation if its women get equal rights. He added the people have a lot to do to bring equality.We are also required to bring socialreforms and change this aspect. It is true that rural areas in the country are still unaware about women empowerment. But our societies should do it.Earlier, Rahul interacted with students at Guwahatis Don Bosco University. Rahul said insurgency inManipur could be solved through discussions, devolution of power and love when asked about the withdrawal of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act from the state.I am inspired by Mahatma Gandhi that any conflict can be resolved through discussions, love and peace, said Rahul. He said he is confident the problem in Manipur can be resolved.You cannot solve problems without discussing them and by using force against these people. They must have the power to do what they want to chart out their own destiny and fulfill their dreams. So, more power to the youngsters and the people, he added.Rahul visited goddess Kamakhyas shrine in Silchar before heading forthe road show at Nagaon, the BJPs bastion in central Assam. There were thousands of people standing on both sides of the road and each of them were waiting to have a glimpse of Rahul, said environment minister Rockybul Hussain, who organized the road show.Standing at the door of his SUV, Rahul started his 65-km road show from Nagaon to Tezpur. Hundreds of travelers on the highway had a harrowing time as traffic was stopped for hours.
