JOURNAL - Day 4 - 9th July I woke up in the morning rather - TopicsExpress

JOURNAL - Day 4 - 9th July I woke up in the morning rather groggy at 5:40am (it felt like 7am) and it turned out that my journal had been soaked overnight in the tent and the inside smudged and became unreadable. I actually cried. We had pancakes and spicy omelette with local honey! good to get used to the local pollen here for my hay fever. Anyway we started the building part of the project today (yesterday was just clearing) it is to be a hall with a stage, and we started building the walls and filled in the stage ready for the cement. It rained at 4pm today, Monsoon style, so we all ran out in our dirty clothes and got drenched in seconds. the rain was very sudden and heavy so flooded the grounds within 2 minutes. I washed my hair in the rain, and once it had died down changed into clean, dry clothes. For lunch we had kidney beans (our source of protein seeing as everything is vegetarian and for dinner we had chow mein and vegetable dumplings - they are more like very big ravioli in tomato sauce. Today went by really fast. I have been nurturing Martin all day with his work blisters and cuts on his hands. Turns out I ended up helping him clean his bag because of an aftersun explosion. Last night was terrible - I slept badly (woke up every couple hours) to the sound of thousands of stray dogs, crickets and, because of the football, the occasional cries of Brazil losing a score against Germany (7-1 to Germany) I found a tiny frog this morning - I caught it to have a closer look, it was about the size of my thumbnail. I called him Pigmy :) he was so small and cute. There were two, from what i could tell, eagles circling - they probably found rats for their lunch. I also saw a gecko the length of my finger and some people were chasing rats - you could hear them squeaking and fighting with mice. The large sums of group money have almost gone so the stress of payments has narrowed! Leaders swapped today, im still the accountant - Im not complaining :) I went into the shopping street near the school but personally I found it disappointing if Im honest - everything was out of date. I think Id much rather spend my money on souvenirs to take home, not out-of-date chocolate.
