JUMJIMs OPTIC NERVE IS BADLY DAMAGED AND SHE HAS LOST MOST OF HER - TopicsExpress

JUMJIMs OPTIC NERVE IS BADLY DAMAGED AND SHE HAS LOST MOST OF HER SIGHT IN HER LEFT EYE. This story is from Verity at Headrock Dogs Rescue in Bang Saphan, Thailand. Headrock Rescue is one of the small shelters supported by K9Aid. We brought JumJim in from the nuns compound as she was getting bullied and had already run away to the nuns house at the bottom of the hill. She wasnt enjoying life much better there either poor little girl. I decided to bring her to our Shelter, where she could stay with our fast growing Mums puppies. It was my hope that we might be able to get her adopted when she got stronger. Her little face was such a mess where bigger dogs had bullied and bitten her and she was too thin. So we started to give her vitamins and covered her coat with coconut oil. Slowly JumJim put on weight and looked much prettier. I noticed that her eye was weeping a bit and asked Jackee our volunteer to wash and treat it every day. On Sunday it didnt look very good as she seemed to be closing it, so I washed and put eye ointment in it. Then yesterday I was shocked to see it had turned green and the pupil was enormous. We took her to the vet who confirmed that her optic nerve had been damaged. There could be many reasons for this, the most likely being playing too rough with her new friends. We have now got her on some quite expensive medication which hopefully will help to strengthen the optic nerve. Happily JumJim isnt blind but her sight is impaired which means she can only see out of her affected eye when daylight is bright. I went to treat her today and was upset to see her lying with her eye half closed and it looked like she was suffering some discomfort from it. After 2 weeks treatment she will have a check up to see if her meds have helped and her sight has improved. Poor JumJim she has never been a strong puppy and now as shes grown stronger under our constant care, shes suffered this set back. As with all our puppies and dogs JumJim is available for Sponsorship and even adoption once shes well. The first pic is of JumJim on the day we brought her to our Centre. The second weird pic of JumJim sniffing the camera clearly shows her green eye. Headrock Dogs Rescue relies solely on donations to help dogs like Jumjim. K9Aid supports them by raising funds to assist their work. Please consider donating to Headrock Dogs today k9aid.org/cs_cause/headrock/
