JUSTICE NEEDED QUICKLY! Because the sentence against an evil deed is not executed speedily, the heart of the children of man is fully set to do evil. Ecclesiastes 8:11 A couple years ago we were ready to go on vacation and our tomato plants were looking pretty good and the tomatoes were coming along fine. While we were gone the horn worms moved in. When we got back home the plants were decimated. Because those worms were not dealt with immediately they spread to all the plants and destroyed them. The plants had very few leaves left. Only the stem structure stood looking spindly and very unhealthy. Unfortunately, we got very few tomatoes that year. So it is with men when justice is not carried out speedily against evil or is not carried out at all. The tendency for evil to increase will occur. We see that very thing happening in the United States right before our very eyes. Crimes are being carried out more and more while the justice system is acting like a racing tortoise on vacation. The serious criminal activity is not being dealt with timely and this needs to start with the highest offices of the land that are acting corruptly and not being held to high accountability standards. Because this corruption is in high places in our nation and not being dealt with speedily it is seeping down to all levels on an increasing level. It was obvious that the Fort Hood shooter was guilty and yet he continued to get paid hundreds of thousands of dollars as a soldier until he finally went to trial and was convicted. Long, drawn out cases like this only encourages others to do evil. Or, how about the hundreds of illegal immigrants who have committed crimes and were just released from prisons? You think that is a deterrent for not committing more crimes? God’s Word makes it clear. When corruption and crimes are not dealt with it only increases. Not only does it not increase, but men set their hearts on doing evil. Governments are set in place by God to execute justice on evil doers and reward those who are doing right (Romans 13:1-7). The corruptive rottenness of an apple will spread its rottenness to all the other apples in the bushel and so the corrupting influence of lawlessness will permeate a culture if evil is not dealt with in a timely manner. We need to be praying for our country. Our nation is at risk of sinking deeper into lawlessness if light is not shed on the dark night of corruption creeping ever so quickly over this nation. Leadership will either guide people toward the light or toward the darkness. By God’s grace and mercy may He enlighten this nation. As followers of Jesus we can thank God that He is the Light in the midst of darkness and will never be overcome by darkness. We are safe and know where we are headed as part of the Kingdom of Light. But may we be deeply concerned for those in the darkness and seek to reach them. Yes, may we be concerned enough to be involved in reaching out to this dark, dying world with the gospel of the King! Dear Father, may I not sit back while others are in darkness. May I point them to Jesus!
