Jacqueline Boone Allsup, president of the Anne Arundel County - TopicsExpress

Jacqueline Boone Allsup, president of the Anne Arundel County branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) leadership have been synchronous with the progress that we have made in this county. Her leadership is to be commended. She leaves a proud legacy of achievements, as she announces her intentions not seek another term as president of the NAACP. When few people were willing to serve as a guarantor at a local bank to help build the first and only Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in the State of Maryland, she did. Not once, but three times. When the Coretta Scott King Memorial Garden was built on the Edgewater campus of Sojourner Douglass College, she was a guarantor. When you visit the Civil Rights Foot Soldiers Memorial in our State Capitol, at the Whitmore Park, you will discover that she is listed there as well. However, her service to her community, has not only left an indelible mark in brick and mortal but also in service to her community. Leadership requires one to take a stand. Often those who do are chastised and criticized. They are ridiculed and attempts are made to destroy them. In her role as president of the NAACP, she never buckled, backed-up, back down, or surrender to the bigots, she kept marching. In order to appreciate her leadership, think about this. Our county has approximately 500,000 people living here and you can count on your hands those persons who have been willing to stand up publicly for social justice issues. Each of us will leave a legacy in the final analysis and I believe that Jackie legacy will be one of service. She recently ran for public office and received over 40,000 votes, but, her legacy will be in three categories, service to her family, church, and community. Her family will look back proudly upon her accomplishments and proclaim to the world that, she is my daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece and cousin. Her church family will loudly proclaim, she is a believer and a member of the body of Christ. Her secular community will proudly proclaim her as a leader that made a difference. On this Friday, November 14, 2014, 6PM, at the Annapolis Doubletree Hotel, the 40th Annual NAACPs Freedom Fund Awards Dinner, will take place, featuring a keynote address by Congressman Elijah Cummings. I hope that you will take the occasion to thank Jackie Allsup for her service to this community. I join with so many others who are proud to call her a friend. Indeed, this nurse(her chosen profession), grandmother and mother have through her leadership made our county a better place to live and to raise our families. As a nurse she have helped to heal, as a professor, she has educated students, as a leader, she has empowered our community. We are eternally indebted to her. What makes next Friday so special is that we get an opportunity to express our love and appreciation for her now and not have to wait until we gather for a home going service in the distance future, she gets to hear us say loud and clear, your life, your legacy, is synchronous with our progress. Thank you. Jackie, thank you for all that you have done and will do to make America a better nation. May God blessings continue to be your reward for your service to this community. A Luta Continua!
