Jaime Gori And here is the legend of the Tobirichi tree. Long ago, the spirits of darkness were often very cruel to humans. When the hummingbird god Colibri married Araverá, daughter of chief Ururuti, they learned that their child would be the one who could defeat the Aña, (spirits of darkness). Araverá fled because the Aña were determined to kill her. She finally found refuge in a Toborochi Tree and gave birth to her son. He grew into a man and avenged his mother and destroyed the Año as the prophecy foretold. Sadly, Araverá had to remain inside the tree forever to keep her son, and the world safe. Every spring, she comes to once again visit her loving husband in the form of deep pink blossoms which are always visited by hummingbirds.
