Jain Commission report hold former TN CM M.Karunanidhi and DMK responsible for abetting Rajiv Gandhi murderers. Former Indian Prime Minister Rajjiv Gandhi’s last public meeting was on 21 May 1991, in Sriperumbudur, a town approximately 30 miles from Chennai, where he was assassinated while campaigning for the Sriperumbudur Lok Sabha Congress candidate Mrs Maragatham Chandrasekhar in Tamil Nadu. Jain commission was appointed by Narasimha Rao in August 1991, three months after Rajiv Gandhi, former Prime Minister, was assassinated in pursuance of a diabolical plot, carefully conceived and executed by a highly organized foreign terrorist organization. Sixteen innocent lives were lost and many sustained grievous/simple injuries.” The names of others who died during the explosion were as follows: P K Gupta (personal security officer to Rajiv Gandhi), Latha Kannan, Kokilavani, Iqbal (superintendent of police), Rajakuru (inspector of police), Edward Joseph (inspector of police), Ethiraj (sub-inspector of police), Sundaraju Pillai (police constable), Ravi (commando police constable), Dharman (police constable), Chandra (woman police constable), Santhani Begum, Darryl Peter, Kumari Saroja Devi and Munuswamy. The 5,280-page report of Jain, comprising eight volumes of interim findings and nine volumes of annexure bound in black rexine, holds Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and his DMK responsible for abetting Rajiv Gandhi’s murderers. Also blamed are two former prime ministers, V.P. Singh and Chandra Shekhar, for their laxity in assessing the threat to Rajiv. The interim report of the Jain commission created a storm when it accused Karunanidhi a role in the assassination, leading to Congress withdrawing its support for the I. K. Gujral government and fresh elections in 1998. It is a notable mention that the current Congress government led by Manmohan Singh supported by Sonia Gandhi, wife of Rajiv Gandhi has Karunanidhi as one of its allies. LTTE spokesperson Anton Balasingham already told the Indian television channel NDTV that the killing was a “great tragedy, a monumental historical tragedy which we deeply regret.” Even after several years, the people of India are still anxious to know about that who has plotted for Rajiv’s assassination in India? If Congress Government wants to stay in people’s heart, they must reveal the truth. This story was published by Junior Vikatan in their issue dated 2004. youtu.be/yEEmjjxBomo
