Jakarta. Communications and Information Minister Tifatul Sembiring said on Monday he would soon block YouTube videos featuring an Indonesian calling on local Muslims to join the extremist Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or ISIS. Tifatul said the decision to block the videos, which were uploaded late last month, were made during a cabinet meeting on Monday morning. “We will immediately follow up on the result of the limited meeting … concerning the ISIS videos,” Tifatul said after the meeting. “We will immediately block the videos.” Communications ministry spokesman Ismail Cawidu previously said the videos could only be blocked on request by authorized institutions — namely the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights and the office of the coordinating security minister. On Monday, chief security minister Djoko Suyanto and law minister Amir Syamsuddin made formal requests to block the video, which features an Indonesian man wearing a turban calling on local Muslims to join ISIS’s self-proclaimed caliphate and stage jihad with them. National Police chief Gen. Sutarman said the man in the videos was a terrorist suspect fugitive that had been on the police’s wanted list for a year now. He only identified the man as B. He added that 56 Indonesians have joined the war in Syria.Ezra Sihite & Novianti Setuningsih thejakartaglobe/news/indonesian-government-block-access-isis-recruitment-videos-youtube/
