James Bond needs to come across as being smooth and sophisticated, wily and unflappable, with just a touch of cynicism. NOTHING about that description says, Exclusively North European ethnicity. Rush has also said that the character needs to be a Scot; however, several of the actors who have depicted him have not been--nor have they affected a Scottish brogue. I feel that the audience, over the decades, has come to accept 007 as being a flexible character, readily inhabited/personified by numerous diverse actors. So why NOT a smooth, sophisticated Black actor?
