This is a great news to San Mig Super Coffee Mixers, who is starting the conference on a high note by racking up two straight wins. Yaps Injury Big Game James suffered a hyperextended elbow injury in the elimination round of the Philippine Cup and battled through the rest of the conference with the ailment. Despite being bothered by an injured shooting arm, Yap was still instrumental in the Mixers stomping of Rain or Shine in the Finals of the Philippine Cup. He was the leading scorer of that championship team. A short break after the grueling championship series also help Yap’s injury to heal. While he still wears a sleeve to protect his arm, Yap no longer has to tape down his elbow to prevent too much joint movement. “Thank God, hindi na ako nag-te-tape,” Yap told InterAksyon in an exclusive interview. “Sobrang sakit nun dati, lalo na kapag tinatangal.” Yap admitted that his injury still isn’t 100 percent, requiring him to continuously get treatment for his elbow. With his arm feeling better, Yap has helped San Mig Coffee to a 2-0 start in the PLDT Home TVolution Commissioner’s Cup. He tallied 10 points in just 21 minutes in the Mixers’ opening game against GlobalPort. In Sunday’s Manila Clasico matchup with Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, Yap scored 10 of his 13 points in the third period, helping the Mixers pull away in the fourth quarter to put away a gritty challenge by the Gin Kings.
