Jane Goodalls Roots & Shoots Kenya organized a Voluntary Community Veterinary Programme in Maasia Mara on 29th November 2014. Background Pests and diseases – Pests such as ticks and the tsetse fly, and diseases e.g. rinderpest, anthrax, east coast fever etc. are common in the pastoral areas. This has contributed to the death of large herds of animals. The programme provided veterinary care to 5,000 animals (cattle, sheep and goat) in Lemek Conservancy, Aitong juction, Narok County. Collaborators include: Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Narok County Government, University of Nairobi (Faculty of Veterinary Science) and University of Pretoria, South Africa, Faculty of Veterinary Science) for their support! Please help us celebrate this bond of voluntary cooperation in support of Maasai pastoralists in Kenya. Let’s make this a powerful beginning! Photos credit to Katherine Moir
