January 25, 1947 USA Alphonse Gabriel Capone dead at 48 After an illustrious career as the Mob Boss of Chicago, and always getting off, Elliott Ness and the Untouchables were finally able to indict and convict Al “Scarface” Capone on Tax Evasion charges. He was sent to the U.S. Penitentiary in Atlanta, and then transferred to Lincoln Heights Jail then finally to Alcatraz where he was in total isolation. In 1939, his last year in prison, he spent mostly at the prison hospital being treated for syphilis he had contracted as a youth. After hi pardon, he spent one more year in the Cook County Jail for the contempt charge at his trial, and then upon release returned to his home in Palm Beach Florida where he died of cardiac arrest.
