January 26th: KDL RESULT: Cedar Galaxy Killarney 3-V- 0 Annascaul Cedar got back on track with a comfortable win today against the men from back west in conditions which were dreadful altogether at times. The home side started the game well and were moving the ball around with confidence with a stiff breeze on their side for the first half. Cedar began to create a few openings but efforts from Joe Donovan and Tadgh Ryan went wide of the mark. Midway through the first half the dead lock was broken when a ball feed through by Tadgh Ryan was latched onto by John Foley who cooly found the back of the net. The galaxy were well on top now and the defense of Ger foley, Ronan Walsh and Pa Murphy gave nothing away at the back and can be very happy with their own performances. The midfield trio of Dara Regan,Joe Donovan and Tadgh Ryan were well on top of midfield and did a great job feeding the ball out wides the their wingers of Dwayne Griffin and Jonathan Murphy who provided an outlet at all times to make chances for the strikers up top of John Foley and the lively James Mccarrick who was always showing for the ball. The second goal was always coming and from a Tadgh Ryan corner, the power house Dara Regan scored with a bullet of a header giving the home side a decent advantage going into the break. The second half restarted like the first with the Galaxy men pressing high and keeping up the tempo so not to live the orange army back into the game. Cedar were passing the ball superbly and kept possession very well. Cedar introduced some fresh legs midway through the half with Maurice Lyne, Brendan Fuller and David Mcsweeney showing the quality that they have at their disposal. The next goal was always going to be and important one and so it proved to be when Dwayne Griffin out the right wing swung in a terrific cross to the back post, the Annascaul keeper misjudged the flight of the cross and the impressive John Foley tucked the ball into the net getting his second on the day. From then on the contest was over and Cedar were unlucky not to not add anymore goals with chances from David Mcsweeney and Brendan Fuller coming close but Cedar wanted that clean sheet that they badly needed and so was to be the case with the Cedar keeper Paul Murphy making some good saves and was always on his toes to any danger that came by. A much improved result and performance by Cedar from the last 2 games. Now to keep this going and to get the squad training together!! The Cedar management can be very happy with their days work and what their saw out on the playing field but much tougher battles await. Best on the day for the Galaxy- John Foley, Ger Foley and Pa Murphy
