Jasper David Land (1943 - 2014) Obituary Jasper David Land, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, October 29 at the age of 71. The loss shared by his family, friends, and loved ones is monumental. Jasper was born in Porterville, CA. on January 29, 1943. He was the youngest of four children born to Roscoe and Clara Land. He was raised in Porterville and graduated from Porterville High School in 1960. Jasper continued his education at Porterville College and received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Fresno State. Jasper began his teaching career in 1964 as a sixth-grade teacher at Belleview School. He was vice principal and a sixth-grade teacher at John J. Doyle Elementary for two years, principal of West Putnam Elementary for 10 years and principal of Vandalia Elementary for 9 years. He served as the PUSD assistant superintendent of Human Resources and Operations for 15 years. Jasper was a teacher, a confidant, a mentor, and a leader for thousands of students and hundreds of teachers and administrators. After 40 years in education, Jasper retired, receiving a great outpouring of affection and appreciation from his friends and colleagues for his many years of devotion to the schools and the community of Porterville, California. After retirement, Jasper continued to mentor, consult, and share his vast knowledge with fellow teachers and principals around Tulare County. Jasper worked for the Tulare Union High School District as assistant superintendent of Human Resources and Finance in 2004, worked as a negotiator for the Ducor Union Elementary School District in 2006, and served as interim superintendent for the Alta Vista Elementary School District. Growing up, Jasper was a great athlete, football and track were his favorite sports. He continued his love for sports by coaching numerous teams through the years, including Little League baseball where one of his teams advanced farther (2 games away from playing in the Little League World Series) than any other team from Porterville, even to this day. He also coached many Bobby Sox teams throughout the years. He was a constant presence and avid supporter throughout his childrens lives and their many activities; he celebrated their accomplishments and treated their friends like they were his family. Jasper bled orange and green and supported Porterville High school athletics and chaperoned many band trips. Jasper loved living in the country and loved all of his animals. He was active in 4-H and was the swine leader for numerous years. His love for 4-H and animals made him a big part of the Porterville Fair, where he served on the Fair board for many years. He helped numerous kids with the raising and selling of their animals. His memory lives on in the lives of his wife of 52 years Willene Land, his sons David and Donald Land of Porterville, his daughters Diana Anderson and husband Chris of Bakersfield, and Debbie Snow and husband Mike of Bakersfield, ten grandchildren (who were the light of his life), Bowen, Brock, and Brady Anderson, Madison, Kynadee, and Brodie Snow, Garrett and Stephen Land, and Katie and Erick Land. He is also survived by his brother, James Land and wife Carol of Porterville and a sister, Linda Watson of Visalia. In addition, he leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews. The love and support of his extended family, Denise Land and Jennifer Mancebo-Giannetto, greatly enriched his life. Jasper was always one to put family and friends needs before his own. He will be forever missed. The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to his caregiver, Ava Miller, Sierra View Hospital 2nd floor, and Sierra Valley Rehab for the amazing care he received.
