Jazz in the Round returns on Monday with a line up to blow your jazz socks off. Headlining we have a trio of groovy geezers who go by the collective handle of The Grip. It’s a project led by reeds player Finn Peters and featuring the always amazing Oren Marshall on Tuba and the equally brilliant Tom Skinner on the kit. The solo spot this month is occupied by ex-Tomorrow’s Warrior and classically trained bass player Neil Charles. Neil’s adept on the upright and electric bass so expect a bit of both - I hope. It’s also Gary Crosby’s Tomorrow’s Warriors that we have to thank for unearthing the talents of guitarist Shirley Tetteh. Shirley cites influences as diverse as Django Reinhardt and Julian Lage on her playing. Her new band opens the show for us this coming Monday. We start at 8pm and with so much music to fit in, that does mean 8 sharp. Before and in between bands you can hear Jez play some tunes in the bar. Tickets are £9. thecockpit.org.uk/show/jazz_in_the_round_0
