Jeanie and Winston lesson 9/19/14 Before we started working together a few years ago, they both attended a clinic with a visiting eventing clinician that thought every horse should be able to canter and jump easily. The instructor did not recognize Winstons imbalance issues, and during the clinic while cantering and jumping, Winston fell completely to the ground with Jeanie on. It was emotionally and physically traumatic for both. Here, Jeanie is learning how to control her emotions and help Winston control his so that not only is jumping a more pleasant experience, but also a more balanced attempt physically. Having a downhill build, Winston has a challenging time rocking weight back to the HQ, and when he gets emotional, quickly returns weight there bc its a familiar feeling/pattern. While riders typically go in jump position O/F, for Winston right now, that feels too much like dropping him. At this time of his rehab, he feels more comfortable with the rider back and connected thru the rein O/F. As he gains security physically and emotionally, that will shift to a normal looking pattern O/F. This was the third and last jump of the lesson, hence the need to quiet his emotions after having jumped twice moments before.
