Jeddah Metro – Collaboration with Dubai RTA The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has recently briefed a visiting Saudi delegation from the Jeddah Metro about its operational model of the Dubai Metro along with the best practices & technologies in use at Rashidiya Metro Station and Depot. The visit comes in the context of boosting joint cooperation between the two sister countries and sharing expertise with the aim of improving services. “The RTA constantly seeks to communicate with experts of rail operators, be it within the UAE or beyond, with a view to exchanging expertise and enhancing knowledge in all matters of relevance to the rail industry,” said Mohammed Al Mudharreb, Director of Rail Operation, RTA Rail Agency. “The Dubai Metro is one of the projects that trigger huge interest of several countries which are keen on arranging a flow of visits to the Dubai Metro to get acquainted with the best practices adopted, particularly as it is the world’s longest driverless metro line,” he continued. “Members of Jeddah Metro delegation were keen on visiting the Operation Control Center at Rashidiya where they reviewed systems used in monitoring the rolling stock, electric network that feed the metro, and procedures adopted in detecting faults early and how to fix them in order to ensure the efficient and safe operation of trains. They were also briefed on the CCTV system linking surveillance cameras fitted to the metro stations, and procedures adopted in dealing with various incidents,” added Al Mudharreb. “The delegation also reviewed various repair maintenance workshops and attended to a briefing about the sophisticated systems used in the maintenance process as well as the daily and monthly cleaning of the metro carriages. Members of the delegation were escorted in a tour of Rashidiya Metro Station where they reviewed the interior design of the station and the key services provided to the metro riders. They were also familiarized with the number of daily trips and the rising ridership in comparison with the launch year of the Red Line (Sep 2009); which demonstrates the extent of realizing the objectives & vision of the RTA in providing Safe & Smooth Transport for All.
