Jeff Co EMA: All interstates and numbered roads considered impassable Posted: Jan 29, 2014 8:56 AM CST Updated: Jan 29, 2014 8:58 AM CST By Todd Dewey - email Birmingham, AL - The Jefferson County EMA reported the following information to ABC 33/40 --All interstates and numbered roads are considered impassable --Hwy 31 from Gardendale to Hoover is considered impassable --459N from 280 is basically closed (cars are not able to move) because of a tractor trailer wreck that happened Tuesday near the Liberty Park exit. --I-20 W is shut down @ Chula Vista --I-20 E.B. east of Leeds is shut down because of a jack-knifed 18 wheeler. --people have been stranded for hours. --At last report Troopers will begin to clear it at day break because crews could not get to the wreck --problem is now becoming the issue of getting the abandoned vehicles moved (getting motorists to come back and get their cars). --Kids and schools—EMA will effort transportation for all children at schools. There are 19 special needs kids at Huffman HS --Bottom Line, the roads will be opened as soon and safely as possible.
