Jeff emailed--I am 3 months post op ERTL. In my third socket due to volume and starting to stabilize. Today after my 2 mile walk I went to the river with a friend. A bus load of kids had arrived and they were heading to where I get in the river. I was a little nervous not about myself but for the children. They were between 5-8 and from Telluride I learned. I sat down next to them and just sat for a while. The kids slowly asked questions and listened intently as I answered the questions. I told them I was going to take off my leg and jump in the river and swim up. They joked with me saying no you are not going to do that. I smiled and took off my leg. They whispered and laughed he is going to do it. The kids moved over so I could get out on the rocks and in I went. Swam about a half hour. I swim up and drift Down. The kids went about playing. When I returned they gathered around. They asked a few more questions and again they listened even telling others what I was saying. As I left I just told them dont ever let anything stop you from enjoying life. I left feeling as though my impact was positive. I know some others feel differently. Thats ok we are all entitled to our opinions. People are curios and its ok with me. . I am trying to be a positive role model. A civil servant trying to return to work. Like all of you I am having ups and downs. Little kids can always bring a smile to ones face.
