Jennifer Smith Blake is hoping for some input from folks who have - TopicsExpress

Jennifer Smith Blake is hoping for some input from folks who have used History Odyssey. Her son will be in 5th grade next year, and is great at reading and comprehension. He loves history and loves hands on projects, but not so much coloring sheets or cutting/pasting. He has dyslexia, and writing is really tedious for him. (Both the formulating the thought to put on paper, as well as the physical aspect of getting it down.) He does great with oral narration however. I really like what i see with the History Odyssey Ancient history, but am trying to decide between level one and level 2. (Level one is geared toward 1-4 grade, level two is for 5-8.) He likes the way the Story of the World is written (used in L1) and the hands on projects would be right up his alley. However, I like the pace and amount of detail the history is covered in level 2. I am trying to decide if I should use level one and beef it up with extra definitions/people studies and a little more writing, or level two and cut down on the amount of writing he is expected to do, and add some more hands on activities. He needs to grow his writing skill, and history is a fun way to do that vs. just his Rod and Staff grammar composition exercises. However, I dont want to burn him out and take hours a day to do our history either. My other option is to do Story of the World book 1 and beef it up with better notebooking and less coloring etc. Any suggestions? Seems like I need History Odyssey Ancients Level 1.5
