Jessica here: Mom reports that Damien is doing good despite having needed emergency surgery just 3 days ago. Everyone was worried he might lose his new kidney but in true Damien style, he showed everyone that his will to fight and to survive is WAY bigger than anything this awful monster called kidney failure can throw his way. Hes had a few bumps in the road but that doesnt stop him-NOTHING does! Mom has told me if Damien can stay fever free for the remainder of today they will get to go home tomorrow. I know she is super psyched for that and fir the family to be all together again but I also know (from all shes told me) that the stress level will be at an all time high as the whole family tries to adjust to a whole new routine and life. This is what mom had to say regarding home Home...its hard to wrap my mind around everything thats transpired over the last month. Getting THE call, the emotions of knowing our son was getting a second chance at life while another family was mourning the loss of theirs. We wanted to be happy , and we were. We ARE, yet are also saddened at the loss of life it took to make this possible. Then came tge worry and the fear-the heartache if seeing Damien on life support. Waiting for the kidney to function. Sitting and staring at the urine collection box day after day-week after week, praying things would be different this time around. Trying so hard to stay positive yet terrified of another failed transplant. Yet here we are one month later and home has been mentioned, home to a new life and new possibilities. Home this time means being together and means hope has turned to reality. We are SO ready to embrace all life has to hold and celebrate our precious gift of life, we love you donor family! Mom has also shared her new responsibilities with me and wow, what a lot to adjust to. Between the 20 plus medications-some 2 and 3 times a day, injections they must give, feeding regimen (that includes precisely measuring and administering via tube a very exact amount hourly), extra water that Damien now HAS to get (his new kidney needs 550 mL on top of feeds)-and mom must give every hr again through his tube and cannot miss or the kidney will be lost...the family will have their hands full getting used to everything. Today will be our LAST $5 Friday and Im asking you all to help make it our best one yet, while going home is wonderful and exciting, its also stressful and scary knowing theres no nurses to turn to any longer. They have a lot to adjust to and I want Damiens care and learning the new routine to be their only concern. Its my hope that we can all really pull together to give them some breathing room as they adjust to a brand new bright future full of light love and laughter. The link to donate is posted below. Come on team Damien, lets join together in making this sweet familys homecoming be as perfect and stress free as they deserve it to be. Thank you all so much and god bless lm.facebook/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fgofundme%2FDamien-McCauley-Fund&h=-AQEI4q2U&s=1
