Joan Frances Stowe was a patient of The Royal Marsden Hospital for many years and in later stages of her illness died in the care of the Palliative Care Team on Chevallier Ward on July 8th 1995. Joan was personally interested in the care of patients. Before she died she told her friends and family that she wanted an annual prize in her memory to promote the kind of care which she had experienced and about which she was so concerned. The Joan Frances Stowe Prize was generously donated by the family and friends of Joan Frances Stowe in 1995 and has been awarded annually since this time. The prize is awarded to a student who has studied at the School and made a significant contribution to clinical practice. This year the prize was awarded to Abigail and Elysia, from Sir Paul Boffa Hospital, after the setting up of Aurora Support Service.
