Joan Rivers opened a lot of doors, particularly for women. She was also -- and this is probably unbeknown to a lot of people -- a very serious woman who endured a lot of heartbreak in her life. I read a book she wrote many years ago that included the story of her roller coaster career, her husbands suicide and so forth. I was very moved. When I met her, again I was struck by her authenticity. Yeah, I know she made fun of people and sometimes savagely, but I hope that wasnt taken seriously by anyone. She was good-spirited, and she gave the world a lot of pleasure. May every laugh she gave us be lifting her to bliss right now. I hope shes in the happiest place in the universe. I feel sure she is.
