Job Advertisements Source: Weekend Nation, July 19, 2014 Total Land Care (TLC) has received funding from the Royal Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) through the Royal Norwegian Embassy (RNE) towards the implementation of the Management for Adaptation to Climate Change II (MACC II) in the districts of Nkhotakota, Salima, Ntchisi and Dowa. MACC II is an extension of MACC that lasted for a period of 6 years. The goal of the program is to reduce poverty among rural communities and their vulnerability to climate change through increased agricultural productivity and improved food and nutrition security. The purpose is to improve the livelihoods of rural households in the Central Watersheds of Lake Malawi by increasing the number of HHs with energy food reserves in critical months, reducing malnutrition among under-five children, improving household incomes by increasing the production, processing and marketing of agricultural & NRM-based products, and reducing carbon emissions among others. The program purpose will be achieved through 4 inter-linked strategic objectives as follows: aj1ncreased resilience of rural communities to the impacts of climate change; b) Improved entrepreneurship; c) increased empowerment of women, youth, HIV/AIDS and other vulnerable groups, and d) Improved policy advocacy and enabling environment for conservation agriculture in Malawi. Applications are, therefore, invited from suitably qualified Malawians to fill the posts of Field Coordinator (Village Savings and Loans) and Research Assistant under MACC II. For the position of Field Coordinator (VS &L), only female applicants should apply while the other position of Research Assistant any suitably qualified Malawian can apply regardless of gender. The responsibilities and requirements for each position are described below: 1. FIELD COORDINATOR (VILLAGE SAVINGS AND LOANS) The VS&L Field Coordinator will be responsible for implementing VS&L and other related activities like agriculture, agribusiness and ensure sustainable implementation and coordination of all the field activities. She will be required to provide capacity building to all the relevant groups and ensure transfer of relevant knowledge and skills to the VSL and other project related activities. Main Position Responsibilities: • Sensitize communities on village savings and loans in all the project impact areas • Mobilize and train village savings and loan groups in VS&L methodologies • Supervise and mentor VS&L groups in standards VSL methodologies and operating guidelines • Assess and train VS&L groups in economic activity selection planning and management • Collect data on VS&L performance checklist on monthly basis and or as required from time to time • Record and compile VS&L best practices and other success stories within project impact areas • Organize cross learning visits within and to other project consortium members • Develop weekly, monthly and quarterly field supervision plan • Coordinate all field activities with other project members of staff and other relevant key stakeholders at field level • Manage VS&L synergies with other project sector departments like agriculture, irrigation, agribusiness and health among others • Identify, train and strengthen capacity of VS&L community agents • Reporting writing on monthly and quarterly basis and provide any updates as may be required from supervisors from time to time • Perform any other duties. RESEARCH ASSISTANT The research assistant will mainly be responsible in implementing field and farm trials focusing on quinoa.
