Job Opening— Manager of Education Policy and Advocacy Internationals Network’s mission is to provide quality education for recently arrived immigrants by growing and sustaining a strong national network of innovative International High Schools, while broadening our impact by sharing proven best practices and influencing policy for English learners on a national scale. Our Work We provide quality public education for recently arrived immigrants by growing and sustaining a strong national network of innovative International High Schools while sharing proven best practices and influencing policy for English language learners (ELLs) on a national scale. There are 15 schools in our New York City regional network, two in our California Bay Area network, and one Small Learning Community (SLC) in Alexandria, VA. In addition to the support we provide to our network of schools, we also provide professional development to schools and districts outside our network. Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: 1. Monitor, research and analyze education policies that impact Internationals areas of focus (e.g. Common Core, English language learners, quality teaching, etc.) 2. Work collaboratively with and advocate to government and education officials and their staffs, locally, statewide and nationally, to advance organization’s policy advocacy priorities and positions 3. Convene, communicate and coordinate with key partners and stakeholders regarding pertinent education policy information to develop common agenda, policy positions and collective actions 4. Develop partnerships with ELL professional associations as well as immigrant, education, and other advocacy organizations 5. Advise organizational leadership on policy trends, critical issue areas and recommended actions 6. Work with Internationals Network program leadership and Executive Director in developing the organization’s policy advocacy priorities and positions 7. Prepare policy memos, testimony and represent Internationals in multiple coalitions, work groups, and other fora 8. Engage community members and our schools in education policy issues, public speaking appearances and presentations as needed. 9. Work with communications staff members to develop and propose media strategies to elevate the organization’s profile in key education priority areas. 10. Prepare grant proposals and reports in collaboration with organizational leadership, ensure that grant goals and milestones are met. Support Internationals fundraising and other administrative efforts Key Qualifications and Expectations: • Commitment to Internationals Network’s mission, public education, and immigrant integration and rights. • Master’s degree with 2 years’ experience preferred or Bachelor’s degree with 5 years’ experience required. • Expertise in legislative, budget, and administrative advocacy and policymaking. • Knowledge of immigrants and/or public education, preferably both • Existing and positive relationships with policymakers and public administrators desirable. • Ability to analyze legislative and budget policies, make strategic recommendations, and influence policymakers. • Excellent speaking, writing, presentation, and critical analysis skills. • Positive relationships with immigrant communities and communities of color. • Capacity to break new ground, to lead, to innovate, to take risks, and to take public stances on issues. • Ability to work with a diverse staff and flexibility to work on multiple tasks under pressure. • Background in coalition building, program development, supervision, research, and fundraising preferred. • Experience working with schools and/or immigrant communities preferred. • Strong PC, Microsoft Office, and Internet skills.
