Job Title COMMUNICATIONS CENTER SPECIALIST 2 Auto req ID 14331BR Location Black Hawk County…Cedar Falls State Radio Department 595-Public Safety Salary Minimum $35,900 Salary Maximum $52,977 Job Description This position will elicit information from private citizens and state and federal agencies via telephone lines and forward it to the proper personnel; monitor equipment comprised of computerized switching system, isolate system problems and notify repair services; receive road condition data from other communications centers and enter the information in the computer system for agencies, state and nationwide; receive, transmit and monitor messages from/or between state, county and municipal law enforcement or emergency services through operation of two-way radio, telephone and communication computer system; obtain confidential criminal records and traffic safety information from the IOWA System for state and local law enforcement officers; elicit from callers the type of assistance needed and notify appropriate enforcement officials or emergency services; monitor multiple electronic messaging/data systems to ensure officer(s) are aware of the potential uncooperative or violent behavior against them by individuals they may be investigating. Minimum Qualifications Two years of full-time (or equivalent part-time) experience as a Communications operator, dispatcher, or radio operator in a city, county, state, federal, commercial or industrial communications center. Additional Qualifications Ability to pass a thorough background investigation conducted by the Department of Public Safety. Ability to pass a physical and psychological evaluation provided by the Department of Public Safety which includes normal hearing with a loss not exceeding a twenty-five decibel average in either ear at 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 cycles, vision corrected to 20/20 and normal speech.
