AGRICULTURAL ENGINEER (BASED IN THAME, OXFORDSHIRE, UK WITH INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL) Booker Tate is a leader in the provision of management and technical services to sugar, ethanol, bio-energy and other agribusinesses worldwide. Our cane sugar interests are presently focused on the regions of Africa, Asia/ Pacifi c, South America and the Caribbean. Whilst sugarcane is produced overseas, technical support to projects is provided from our UK offi ces in Thame, Oxfordshire. A well qualifi ed Agricultural Engineer is now required to complement a high calibre agricultural team. Main responsibilities will cover: • Evaluating the performance of agricultural equipment, machinery maintenance, drainage, irrigation and erosion control systems as applicable on Booker Tate Limited managed projects and providing advice and guidance to optimise those projects’ technical and fi nancial performance. • Participating as Agricultural Engineer on project feasibility and planning studies on behalf of Booker Tate Limited or other parties. • Assisting in the preparation of detailed project proposals including operational cost calculations, capital expenditure and commercial issues. • Carrying out specifi c consultancy assignments for other parties as required. These may cover crops other than sugar cane. • Optimising equipment operating techniques through staff training, demonstrations, etc. In this role the incumbent will be working with business and technical managers in Thame and with technical and general managers overseas, both national and expatriate. A good proportion of the time (up to 100 days per annum) will be spent on overseas visits of varying duration, but typically lasting for two weeks. We seek candidates with an Agricultural Engineering or related science fi rst degree and preferably a higher degree in Agricultural Engineering or related science and practical experience in commercial agriculture at management level. This experience should cover all important aspects of machinery operations in large scale and/or outgrower scheme agriculture and include time spent working in developing countries. Knowledge of machinery specifi c to the sugarcane industry would be an advantage. Applicants should be computer literate with experience of MS Offi ce. Candidates should have a broad knowledge of business principles and budget control. Excellent written communication skills are essential as report writing is a key output.
