Job description BPS Program Director for Arts Integration Reports To: Executive Director for the Arts Position Description The Program Director for Arts Integration provides district-wide leadership and support for arts-focused integrated/interdisciplinary learning with arts educators and teachers in all content areas. The Boston Public Schools (BPS) Visual and Performing Arts Department is committed to providing excellence, equity and access to arts education for all BPS students. BPS Arts Teachers are the creative/cultural stewards for our students, schools and communities and we work to support, guide and deepen their content, instructional and leadership capacity. Aligned with the BPS Acceleration Agenda the arts-focused integrated learning model will support improved student achievement across all grade levels and communities in the district. The Program Director reports to the BPS Executive Director for the Arts, and works collaboratively with the Program Director for Performing Arts, Arts Partnership Manager and other members of the BPS Arts Department. This position shares supervisory responsibilities for the Collaborating Arts Teachers (CAT’s); the school based Arts Liaisons, assigned student teachers and department interns. Position Responsibilities Curriculum & Instruction Support: · Provide instructional support and guidance to teachers integrating interdisciplinary learning in the classrooms. · Identify, analyze, evaluate and recommend new strategies for developing and implementing arts-focused integrated learning. · Disseminate best practices for arts integration, sources of information on trends, research and applications related to arts use across content areas. · Build supportive and collaborative relationships with schools selected to participate in the Turnaround Arts Initiative. · Support and monitor the implementation of the Citywide Learning Standards in all arts-focused curriculum. · Manage ongoing development of arts-focused curriculum and assessment tools. · Coordinate and facilitate professional development to support school leaders’ understanding and teachers’ continuous improvement of practice related to using the arts as an integral tool for student achievement. · Collaborate with local universities and community based programs and other internal departments to support the ongoing development, implementation and evaluation of workshops courses, institutes and other professional development opportunities. · Collect data to monitor the effectiveness of strategies in partnership with the Executive Director for the Arts · Resource Management - Instructional Materials & Instruments: quality instructional materials citywide. · Develop and manage resources that support and enhance arts learning such as the following, but not limited to: · BPS Arts eNews which communicates arts education opportunities to BPS staff, families, and the greater community · BPS arts website content about district policies and procedures · District-wide arts events, which outreach to the community Perform other related duties as assigned by the Executive Director for the Arts including, but not limited to: · Represent the BPS Arts Department at district meetings (i.e. Curriculum & Instruction team), programming meetings and events, school functions, and community arts events. · Represent the BPS Arts Department at local and national conferences directly related to performing arts curriculum, instruction and assessment. · Prepare and submit administrative documents, including, but not limited to weekly activity reports, periodic program reports, and supporting information for grant reports. Qualifications Required: · Passion for, and knowledge of, arts integration programming, research, and design. · Bachelor’s degree and current teaching certification; Music, Visual Arts, Dance, or Theater preferred. · Minimum five (5) years successful teaching experience. · Background in educational reform or education policy/practice; program development strongly preferred. · Strong communication skills; verbal written and presentation skills. · Demonstrated success working with teachers and/or administrators in a leadership and professional development capacity. · Demonstrated success collaborating with external agencies on the implementation of program and professional development initiatives. Preferred: · Advanced degree in an area of curriculum focus, or administration with a focus on school improvement · Successful experience working in an urban setting · Strong background in instructional and management technology
