Johannes BRAHMS Sviatoslav Richter, piano and the Borodin Quartet - TopicsExpress

Johannes BRAHMS Sviatoslav Richter, piano and the Borodin Quartet (1958) 1: Allegro non troppo 2: Andante, un poco adagio (14:52) 3: Scherzo: Allegro (24:15) 4: Finale: Poco sostenuto - Allegro non troppo - Presto, non troppo (31:34) In this 1958 recording, Sviatoslav Richter is joined by the Borodin Quartet in a performance of the Brahms piano quintet, Op. 34 (published when Brahms was about 31 years old). I created this video from the LP that you see above, issued on the Hall of Fame label, Great Artist Series, serial number HOFS 518. The jacket erroneously identifies the Borodin Quartet as the Bolshoi String Quartet. With the exception of those images of Brahms, all images used to create this video were taken from LP label (Side 1, 8:36, Side 2, 25:23) and jacket, front (17:42) and reverse (29:22). Richter bio is at 27:22. (Apologies for the somewhat poor audio quality; post-Stalinist Soviet Russia was not quite as advanced as the West in recording technology, and as far as I can tell nothing was done to significantly alter or otherwise enhance the sound during the original reproduction process for the manufacture of this LP.) Another recording from this label: Tartini / Oistrakh / Yampolsky, 1950: Sonata in G minor - Devils Trill : > youtube/watch?v=gHdb2HGm4pc
