Johannesburger Saaleha Idrees Bamjee has won the 2014 Writivism Short Story Prize for her story “Out of the Blue”. The competition had been open to all unpublished writers from the African continent. Judges Ellen Banda Aaku, Emmanuel Sigauke, Abubakar Ibrahim, Zukiswa Wanner and Gladys Namukasa whittled the many entries down to a shortlist of five, and Bamjee was crowned the overall winner at the 2014 Writivism Festival in Kampala, Uganda. The announcement was made on Saturday 21 June, to coincide with Short Story Day Africa.
