John 1:1-5 In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. This is my favorite scripture. It beautifully tells the vastness of who Christ is. He was in the beginning. He was God. He was the Word of God. All things exist through Him. Not only did He come to redeem us but our very existence to begin with is because He exists. I am not big on taking the time to look at the Hebrew or Greek words but there is a word here that does warrant taking a look a the Hebrew. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. The Hebrew word for comprehend is kul. Kul has a two part meaning - to comprehend, contain. That verse takes on a power punch when you add the word contain to it. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not contain it. Amen! No it didnt. The really good news: John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even those who believe in His name. He is the life and light. He in us. There is no darkness that can comprehend nor contain the Light that is in us.
