John 17:20-26 (NKJV) I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me. This Scripture is part of one of the most important prayers in the Bible, maybe second only to the Lord’s prayer. I encourage anyone unfamiliar with this prayer to read the whole thing. I chose one paragraph that I think is particularly significant. Jesus explains His relationship with the Father and how they are united as one. Then He prays that all who follow Him, not just the 11 disciples at that time, would be united in the same way. We are to be unified and one body acting together to spread the good news by speech and example. Jesus puts us in the same situation as Himself when He says that “We are one: I in them and you in Me; that they may be perfect in one.” That is pretty strong language and should not be taken lightly. We can only attain this by righteousness that we get from the Spirit living in us and enabling us to be united in our relationship with God. Shalom, Mike
