John 18:37-38...Pilate asked the most important question he could have asked in light of Jesus’ statement equating his voice with truth. Pilate, the pagan Roman politician, had asked the Author of truth—Truth Incarnate—to describe truth for him. But he squandered the opportunity. He did not want an answer. He merely asked the question as a sarcastic, rhetorical device, having become fed up with the whole process. Pilate asked the right question but with the wrong motive. And it was because of the cost of truth.
