He was born Aug. 24, 1918 in Pekin to George and Victoria (Popa) Costea. He graduated from Minerva High School and then joined the US Army in WWII. Following the service he went to work for Metropolitan Brick and later Summitville Tile where he worked for 46 years. He is a member of the Minerva First Christian Church where he was a former longtime deacon. He is a member of the Minerva Senior Center and the Minerva VFW. He was an avid dancer and active in the Mayfield Senior Center in Canton. He is preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn (Daniels) Costea who died in 2005; daughter, Carol Holderbaum; sister, Sarah Mailat; and a brother, Nicholas Costea. He is survived by daughter, Victoria Grindstaff of Minerva; son, Johnny (Deborah) Costea of Minerva; companion and dancing partner, Loretta Gephart of Canton; 7 grandchildren, Nicholas and Ben (Suzanne) Holderbaum, Brian (Jenny) Costea, Amanda (Andy) Conrad, Angela, Bryce and Brock Grindstaff; 6 great grandchildren, Karleigh, Kelseigh, Haleigh, Emily, Brayden and Julia; a niece, Vicky (Steve) Turcu of Cleveland; and two great nephews, Cornell and Daniel. Funeral services will be Saturday at 12 noon in the Minerva First Christian Church with Rev. Dale Roberts officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Liberty Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sat. from 10am to 12 noon, prior to services. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Minerva First Christian Church.
