John Forbes Nash, Jr. was born on June 13, 1928, in Bluefield, West Virginia, the son of an electrical engineer for the Appalachian Electric Power Company. His parents and grandparents provided books and encyclopedias for him as well as arranged for him to take advanced mathematics courses at a local community college during high school. He went on from West Virginia to a career as a Senior Research Mathematician at Princeton University where he remains.
