John Grisham wrote A Time to Kill, famously starring starring Matthew McConaughey, Sandra Bullock, Samuel L. Jackson, about a trial at which an all white jury acquitted a black man who took revenge on the KKK men who raped his young daughter. In the course of this, his house was burned down and one of the lawyers was raped and terrorized. He later wrote a book called The Chamber, about an 11th hour attempt to save the life of a white man on death row for a bombing many years before, in the heyday of the KKK. This book is the sequel to A Time to Kill- Sycamore Row. I have read many of his books but not this one, and I can hardly wait to get my hands on it. We are still living with the legacy of the South, and as a White Southerner, I have always been fascinated by the inconsistencies and paradoxes of our culture. It is very enriching to talk about it and share experiences- which we are fortunate to be able to do in safety at this time in our history. And it deepens our respect and admiration for each other.
