[John Sandford posting] Sitting here listening to Ray Wylie - TopicsExpress

[John Sandford posting] Sitting here listening to Ray Wylie Hubbard on the iTunes; Ray is coming to Los Alamos, NM, next Friday, and I expect to be there. Also, just listened to Town Mountain doing Im on Fire, which is better than the original by Bruce Bedspread, uh, I mean, Springsteen. Or maybe not better, but good, and different. I just saw the original Springsteen video for the song, and in the end, he pushes the key through the womans door-slot. Is that Freudian, or am I just a dirty old man? I wrote two thousand words on the new novel, ending just a few minutes ago, and I think I might go on tonight. During the breaks, I was looking at Amazon reviews of Uncaged, which is not recommended for authors, because sometimes it stops your heart. Heres the thing: I get all kinds of reviews, mostly good, some bad. I love the good reviews, of course, but dont pay a huge amount of attention to them, because they already agree with what I did. I do pay some attention to the two- and one-star reviews, because if they sincerely tell me something I might have done wrong, then maybe I can learn something, and fix it next time. That has actually happened, and thats not what stops your heart. What does that is, the reviews that say stuff like, This book cost too much. I like it a lot, but because of the price, Im only giving it one star. Or, I dont want to wait a year for the next book, so Im giving this one one-star. I mean, cmon. If somebody says, Sandfords character development is too shallow in this book or Sandford is too vulgar here, too much swearing, cops dont talk like that, Ill take it seriously -- because maybe the reader is right. But I dont set the prices for the books; and the book said on the cover, The Singular Menace: Book 1. Doesnt that at least hint there may be more books? Those Amazon ratings are important, because lots of readers who are tempted by the book look at the overall rating, and if its not five or four stars, pass on it. So when you work really hard on a book, and see the rating dragged down by people who liked the book but not the price...And Im especially annoyed when somebody rips me up unfairly, and then refers to me as Sanford. Grumble, rumble...little @55#0135..Wait, did I say that? So, heres an actual question for the people who have read Uncaged. Did you not like the ending? Even if you recognized it as a series book when you started, do you think it unfairly hung you up at the end? An inquiring mind would like to know. In the meantime, while I wait to hear, Ill listen to Ray for a while longer.
