Join Critical Resistance this week at the MOCA Geffen! TODAY Friday, June 27, 3-5pm: Homeless Bill of Rights presentation in conjunction with Los Angeles Community Action Network (LACAN). CRLA at MIKE KELLEY MOBILE HOMESTEAD Workshops to take place on June 26, 27, & 28 Critical Resistance Los Angeles (CRLA) will occupy the Mike Kelley Mobile Homestead, at MOCA - The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, June 26 - 30, 2014. A visual installation by CRLA will be on view, and three workshops will take place throughout the week. The Mobile Homestead sits in front of the Geffen Contemporary Building at 152 N Central Ave, 90012; a full scale replica of Kelleys childhood home on wheels, the Homestead is designed to carry out public service when detached from its permanent residence in Detroit. The visual installation, comprised by CRLA members and their allies, conceptualizes the past, present, and future of the prison landscape and the prison industrial complex—specific to Los Angeles County and California. The installation includes posters from Melanie Cervantes and the Center for the Study of Political Graphics, photography and a viewing piece by Ashley Hunt, media by CH.R.O.M.E., an archival piece reflecting the history of the Lincoln Heights Jail by Heather M. O’Brien, poetry by Linette Park, and a video of a recent action by Critical Resistance Los Angeles and their allies (edited by Kean O’Brien and Ashley Hunt). The protest took place at the Antelope Valley Mall in March 2014 to raise awareness about the proposed women’s jail at the Mira Loma Detention Center in Lancaster. The action is part of CRLA’s current campaign to stop the construction of a new women’s jail that has been offensively described as a “women’s village.” To learn more about CRLA’s campaign and of our struggle, we invite you to join any our workshops. https://facebook/events/311349755695321 Workshop Schedule Thursday, June 26, 6-8pm: Discussion about CRLA archive and works inside and around the Homestead related to the Prison Industrial Complex. Friday, June 27, 3-5pm: Homeless Bill of Rights presentation in conjunction with Los Angeles Community Action Network (LACAN). Saturday, June 28, 4-6pm: Presentation by California United for a Responsible Budget & LA No More Jails Coalition / Abolition workshop with CRLA RSVP for workshops by emailing [email protected]. Mobile Homestead is a public art project by Mike Kelley. The mobile section, a facade on wheels, is designed to carry out public service when detached from its permanent residence, a full scale replica of Kelleys childhood home, permanently installed at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit. Now, for the first time, this traveling section will be activated outside of Detroit, in downtown Los Angeles, and on site at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA where it will host social services and community initiatives from May 29 through July 28, 2014. Mobile Homestead in Los Angeles is made possible by Mike Kelley Foundation for the Arts. “Mobile Homestead covertly makes a distinction between public art and private art, between the notions that art functions for the social good, and that art addresses personal desires and concerns… It has a public side, and a secret side.” – Mike Kelley, 2011 ****************************
