The deadly Ebola virus is sweeping through West Africa, leaving behind deaths said to be in excess of 800. Bodies continue to litter the streets of Liberia and Guinea of persons suspected to have died of Ebola. So called leaders of the affected countries and others are currently in the United States begging for money to come and solve problems they have created in their respective countries. Their citizens are dying from the scourge. At the same time, two Americans and a Spaniard who were Liberia to help treat the patients but ended up contracting the virus are still living. Their governments sent in special aircrafts fitted with medical equipment to bring them back home for treatment. Their leaders took the necessary steps to ensure they stay alive so they can contribute to development of their respective countries. Sadly, our own efforts on the continent is negative zero, and while our leaders twiddle their thumbs and show off their teeth before the cameras in Washington with the hope of being given coins(which end up in their personal accounts), their people perish. Millions of Africans continue to explore dangerous routes in order to get to Europe for a better life. Early this year, a boat carrying more than 100 immigrants, mostly from Eritrea and Ethiopia, perished in sea while attempting to get to Italy. Though a dangerous journey that should put fear in the hearts of other potential suitors wanting to grab their bride-Europe-from making the trip, they still jump onto the next boat waiting to get them out of Africa. Equatorial Guinea has a population ratio of less than 5 million, it has oil and yet its nationals die of hunger and disease. The same story is replicated in DR Congo, a country almost the size of Western Europe and blessed with rich minerals. Her citizens are wallowing abject poverty. Sierra Leone, Guinea, Nigeria and Ghana are endowed with rich natural resources and apart from the leadership and close cronies who are living well, majority of the citizens are struggling to feed. Ghana is now seeking a bailout despite continues sermons the economy is doing well. In the light of all that has been happening, we ask if the Black Man is in a position to manage his own affairs. There are exceptional black people doing great things but the total-especially leadership-has been an embarrassment to everyone. Its really shameful to work and be beating your chest as a proud African. Its a fact. But for more, lets the discussion begins.
