Join us for Wednesday Homeschool Classes Grades 7 -12 Each Class is $125 for the Semester -September 3 - Jan 15 Call 503-481-4884 to register First Period- 9:00 - 10:30 American Republic Instructor: Patrick Lumbroso This class covers the time period from early America to the present. The study begins with the Thirteen Colonies, Independence, and The Federalists Years. Students taking this class for the full year will go on to study the Jeffersonian area, Manifest Destiny, the War Between the States, the Great War, the Twenties and Thirties, Postwar and the Space Race. This class follows BJU High School Studies. There class includes an in-depth study of current events to help students better understand how the past shaped the present and how present policies may effect future America. Second Period - 10:30 - 12:00 World Literature Discover the joys of great literature. Selections represent a wide variety of cultures and time periods, including, among others, Les Miserables and a selection from Shakespeare. Other pieces are still under consideration. We will post them as soon as we have confirmation of the chosen literary works from the Instructor.This class will be taught with the use of movies and worktexts. Students will learn how to give interpretive, literal, critical and appreciative responses to the selections. Third Period 12:30-2:00 Writing and Grammar Instructor: Tammy Jata The instructor presents clear instruction in writing and grammar, including an overview of the writing process and many focused writing activities. We review the eight parts of speech, five basic sentence patterns, usage, and mechanics, and discuss grammar elements such as participles, gerunds, and infinitives. Writing projects include a news report, a character profile, a short fable, and an in-class essay.
